Shi Ming delivered a stunning head-kick knockout in the third round of her fight against Xiaocan Feng in the Road to UFC women’s strawweight final at UFC Macau.
The victory earned Ming a UFC contract but left a somber moment as Feng had to be stretchered out of the Octagon.
Ming, giving up five inches in height and six inches in reach, struggled in the first two rounds as Feng effectively used her physical advantage.
Heading into the third round, Ming was a massive underdog on live betting odds. However, just 46 seconds into the final round, Ming landed a perfectly timed head kick, instantly knocking Feng unconscious.
The knockout left the crowd in awe, but celebrations were subdued as Feng remained on the canvas for several minutes. Medical personnel immediately attended to Feng, who remained on the canvas for several minutes before being stretchered out. UFC officials later confirmed that she was conscious and speaking as she was transported to a local hospital.
In her post-fight interview, Ming said she was worried about Feng’s condition. “I hope she is OK,” Ming said. “She’s a strong fighter, and I respect her.”
The win improves Ming’s professional record to 17-5 and marks her 11th victory in her last 12 fights. If eligible, Ming is expected to receive a $50,000 performance bonus for her highlight-reel finish.
