Former heavyweight boxing legend, Mike Tyson, has spoken out about a viral backstage moment that occurred during his recent bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. The fight, which took place in Texas in November, marked Tyson’s return to the ring after almost two decades of retirement.

However, a candid incident where Tyson’s backside was unintentionally shown to Netflix audiences grabbed attention online.

Speaking with Fox Sports Radio about the viral clip, Tyson said, “Hey, um, television has really changed, huh? When that became a big thing, that’s just so ridiculous. That’s not important. I’ve looked that way my whole career; my butt’s been showing, but no one took a picture of it. It’s a new time and era.”

The moment occurred backstage when Tyson prepared to head to the ring. As he embraced his son, viewers watching on Netflix noticed his backside on camera—a moment that quickly spread across social media.

Tyson’s Health Scare and Return to the Ring

Tyson returned to the boxing world in an eight-round match against Jake Paul, where he ultimately lost by unanimous decision. Leading up to the fight, the 58-year-old boxing icon overcame serious health challenges, including an ulcer flare-up and severe blood loss over the summer.

Tyson recently revealed just how close he came to death earlier in the year.

This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.

I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight, so I won,” Tyson wrote on his official X account (formerly Twitter), reflecting on the journey back to the sport.

To Tyson, despite his loss in the ring, the experience was meaningful for both personal and professional reasons. Speaking after the fight, Tyson expressed gratitude: “To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboys stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”

The Fight that Divided Fans

While Tyson’s return to the ring was celebrated as a spectacle, the fight itself faced criticism from fans and analysts. At 27 years old, Paul is less than half Tyson’s age, leading to debates about the fairness and relevance of the match.

Still, the fight drew massive attention and a full crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, proving that Tyson remains a major draw in combat sports.

Ultimately, Jake Paul earned a unanimous decision victory against the veteran boxer, further cementing his name in the world of celebrity boxing. Tyson, however, emerged with his head held high, proud of his performance and resilience.

For fans, the night will be remembered both for the fight itself and the viral moments surrounding Tyson’s return to the spotlight. As the legendary fighter reflected, “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time.”
