Francis Ngannou, the current PFL heavyweight champion and former UFC titleholder, has publicly called out UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones for what he describes as “the right fight.”
The Cameroonian star took to X (formerly Twitter) to ignite talks of a potential cross-promotion clash between the two biggest names in the heavyweight division.
Ngannou posted:
“Blessings make haters uncomfortable, but they can’t change it. There’s only one fight, the right fight that will multiply your blessings. #NgannouVSJones.”
Ngannou’s career has been remarkable. After capturing and defending the UFC heavyweight title, he left the organization as the lineal champion and carved a unique path.
Since his departure, Ngannou has competed in high-profile boxing bouts and secured the PFL heavyweight title with a dominant first-round knockout.
On the other side, Jon Jones, widely regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, entered the UFC heavyweight division after conquering the light heavyweight scene. Jones claimed the vacant UFC heavyweight title earlier this year with a first-round submission victory. He also defended his belt with a win over Stipe Miocic.
Currently, the UFC heavyweight division has an interim champion, Tom Aspinall, who has been waiting for a title unification fight. However, Jones has reportedly shown no interest in facing Aspinall. Instead, Jones has hinted at either a superfight with the light heavyweight champion or potential retirement.
This reluctance has drawn criticism from some MMA observers. Five-time UFC champion Randy Couture weighed in on the matter, saying:
“Jon Jones—as much as he doesn’t wanna fight Francis—is gonna have trouble avoiding that. Now he says he didn’t wanna fight Tom. I mean, why? You’re supposedly the GOAT. Step up and fight.”
The growing tension has stirred conversations among fans, some of whom see Ngannou vs. Jones as a historical matchup between two champions. With Ngannou carrying the UFC’s lineal heavyweight legacy and Jones holding the official UFC heavyweight title, this fight could settle the debate over who truly sits atop the sport’s heaviest division.
As of now, the UFC and Jones have not publicly responded to Ngannou’s challenge. Still, fans eagerly await any updates that could bring this colossal showdown closer to reality.
