Highlights
  • Chase Hooper picks Georges St-Pierre as the best grappler in MMA history over Khabib and Jon Jones.
  • St-Pierre's grappling legacy includes six submission victories and mentorship under elite coach John Danaher.
  • The former champ’s last UFC fight ended with a submission win over Michael Bisping in 2017.

Georges St-Pierre has long been a popular name in the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) discussions of mixed martial arts, and now lightweight fighter Chase Hooper is backing the Canadian legend as the greatest grappler in UFC history.

Hooper believes GSP surpasses even decorated champions like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jon Jones in grappling skill.

In a discussion captured by reporter James Lynch on X (formerly Twitter), Chase Hooper was asked about the best grappler in UFC history during a game of “This or That.” When asked, Hooper stated that St-Pierre deserves recognition as the sport’s most dominant grappler, thanks to his impressive track record and skill set.

Lynch posted on X, “Who’s the best grappler in UFC history? I asked UFC lightweight Chase Hooper (@chase_hooper) in another game of ‘This or That.’”

St-Pierre’s grappling ability became legendary throughout his career, supported by elite training under renowned coach John Danaher. With six career submission wins, St-Pierre’s grappling mastery was consistently on display in his UFC run. Notable submission victories include his triumph over Frank Trigg and two finishes of Matt Hughes, who was also a dominant wrestler during his era.

His most significant grappling accomplishment perhaps came in his final UFC fight when he defeated Michael Bisping at the iconic Madison Square Garden in 2017. St-Pierre submitted Bisping via rear-naked choke to win the middleweight championship, adding to his welterweight title legacy.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, often celebrated as one of the most dominant grapplers in MMA, retired in 2020 after an undefeated career.

His incredible ground control and submissions earned him 11 submissions in the Octagon. Similarly, Jon Jones, known for his complete fighting style, submitted several high-level opponents throughout his career, including his latest win against Stipe Miocic to retain the heavyweight title earlier this month at UFC 309.

While both Khabib and Jones hold their respective places in MMA history, Hooper’s choice of St-Pierre highlights GSP’s multi-faceted grappling pedigree.

Beyond submissions, St-Pierre’s ability to control fights both offensively and defensively through wrestling, transitions, and counters cements his place as one of the greatest legends in the sport.

As the debate over the MMA GOAT wrestler continues, St-Pierre’s impressive accomplishments and well-rounded career ensure he will remain a significant figure in these discussions.

For now, Chase Hooper is confidently casting his vote for the Canadian superstar.
